As a wedding filmmaker myself and owner of a web design firm for over 12 years, I know how important it is to have an incredible website. I am assuming, because you are here, you do too. The question is always “What makes a website great for a wedding creative?” Is it SEO? Is it stability? Is it fast loading speeds on all those photos and videos we work so hard to make? Having sold over a thousand wedding films over my career (and I still shoot weddings to this day) in multiple markets and price points, I can tell you one concept reigns supreme in terms of what makes a website perform well: User Experience (or UX for the nerds).

As storytellers we understand the power of a narrative and moving someones emotions. Think of UX as the website equivalent of this. It’s the feeling a user gets when using a website and it is essential to brand storytelling and connection. Far more than anything else your site must succeed in your website must create a feeling in it’s user. It’s not enough to just communicate information. Especially when it comes to wedding storytelling, users have to feel something and in some cases not feel other things.

Potential clients and partners must not feel frustrated or confused by your website. They must feel the emotion of the wedding day. They need to believe you are the right artists to handle their wedding day.

The problem with UX is that it lives behind the choices of a designer. Potentially amazing artists well suited to work with equally amazing couples can miss each other because the website fails to communicate clearly and fails to show the true potential of the artist. Like any art form, web design is hard, and many wedding creatives simply don’t specialize at this type of storytelling.

Now there are some incredible studios to pick from… if you can afford them. Many charge upwards of $20,000 to design a website. For some, this may be an acceptable cost, but I know for many that simply is not an option.

So, we decided to combine our 12 years of wedding filmmaking and web design experience and started Luma Sites, a web design firm created expressly for wedding creatives.
